Tilly & Lola WISH Fun Run

On 24th September, the girls will be running 1.5k fun run for WISH CDG Tilly was 6 when she was diagnosed as Type1 Diabetic - her life changed forever. She has up to 7 injections per day and her life is consumed with blood sugar levels, carb counting every piece of food that enters her mouth and highs and lows. The highs are tough but we can deal with but the lows are scary, you can literally see the life falling away from her as her blood sugars drop. As a parent it's awful to watch, then as the sugar makes its way into her blood you see her slowly coming back to life. As a parent our lives are filled with constant worry - will she be ok, where are her bloods going, did I hurt her with that last injections. Then we get the night testing, the worst part, but you do it because you know she relies on you, needs you to keep her safe. When she was diagnosed we where overwhelmed. We were introduced to WISH CDG - a support group for children with diabetes. The group is amazing, it offers support, help and more importantly opportunities for children to feel normal It has the full support of the Peadiatric Nursing Team, who once a year give us their time to take the children away for a few days, giving the parents some respite and to encourage and teach the children how to help care for themselves.
