Mark's Extra Mile

Our 'Volunteer of the Year' (HVA volunteer awards 2019), Mark Ripley is going to go the extra mile by walking from Eastbourne to Hastings. 

Mark came to EFT through our Without Walls course and has been with us volunteering for 4 years, despite having his own struggles, with homelessness and needing to make an hour and a half round trip, on foot, to get here. When he came to us Mark was quiet and shy but since working with us and other volunteers, he has found his voice and chats regularly with staff and volunteers about birds and plants sharing his learning.

To raise much needed funding for EFT, and his way of repaying us, Mark has decided to do what he does best, and walk! Mark will walk from Eastbourne on November 24th to Hastings. He will do this as where possible along the shingle beach. This will be roughly 15 miles/24km and will take around 5 to 5.5 hours.

EFT is a charity helping local families, children and individuals, through keyworkers working local in schools and providing alternative and outdoor education with sports, wellbeing, forest schools and conservation. We are currently providing food hampers to local families to help through this difficult time and would appreciate donations towards this food and the goal of no local person going hungry.
