Muffin's Dream rides Mt. Ventoux (three ways!)
Mont Ventoux, the Giant of Provence, iconic mountain of the Tour de France; rises up 6,273ft on the edge of the Alps. The mountain has featured 15 times in the Tour de France since 1951 and the climb from Bédoin to Mont Ventoux is considered one of the toughest in professional cycling. Those that know me know I like to ride my bicycle; and am not adverse to a tough challenge, up until now for my own pleasure and personal achievement. So when my friend Russell suggested we attempt to ride Ventoux, of course I jumped at it. There are 3 ways up Ventoux by one of three main roads from Bédoin, Malaucène, Sault. Each a monster challenge with their own characteristics. Any one of these routes would be tough... but what about a massive challenge? riding all 3 in a single day?? And doing it to raise money for a good cause? That is the challenge that has been set. A total distance of 137km, climbing 4400m, in a single day. My chosen charity is a local Basingstoke charity: Muffin's Dream Foundation. Founded by Charlie Porter, daughter of good friend Steve, the Muffin's Dream team help children, young people and their families to cope with disability and live a happy life through providing care, activities and events. Born with Spina Bifida, Charlie's story is an inspiration, and one of determination and generosity. Please take a moment to read it on the Muffins website: http://www.muffinsdreamfoundation.org/ So please help me raise funds to support Muffin's Dream and the work they do. The money raised will help them put on activities and events and provide their Boredom Buster! Bags for young people stuck in hospital beds! I hope it will also bring them a little closer to realising Muffin's Ultimate Dream of Muffin's House - a purpose-built place where Muffin's kids are able to go for sleepovers and still receive the often complex care they need.
