Sarah and Lindsey run the Swansea Half Marathon
Sarah and Lindsey will be running the Swansea half marathon to raise money for With Music In Mind, a Community Interest Company based in the Vale of Glamorgan. With Music In Mind run singing and social groups for people aged 50+, with the aim of reducing social isolation and loneliness and improving mental and physical wellbeing in the community.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, isolation in the older community has been a greater issue than ever. Many have lost loved ones, have been separated from friends and family, and/or have had to shield for the majority of the last year. This has led to greater isolation, and consequently the mental and physical health of many older people has deteriorated. Groups such as With Music In Mind provide a space for older people to meet new people, socialise with people who have similar interests and enjoy the benefits of music in a welcoming and informal space. This has been a lifeline for many older people who live on their own, who have been widowed, who live apart from family, who struggle with mental health issues, who live with dementia, who are unpaid carers, and many more.
Not-for-profit organisations have suffered a lot throughout the pandemic, and at a time where With Music In Mind means more to people than ever, funds have been difficult to get hold of. That is why Sarah and Lindsey will be running the Swansea Half Marathon, to raise money for this valuable cause and to keep With Music In Mind's singing and social groups going. Any support you can give would be hugely appreciated by the organisation and members.
