Raising much-needed funds for Sandwell-based social enterprise, Agewell CIC, by attempting the Snowdonia Marathon Eryri 30 years after I first completed it. I’ve been persuaded to revive a long-lapsed pastime of long-distance running by taking on the challenge of running the Snowdonia Marathon Eryri with an old friend, 30 years after we first completed it together! For the past four years I’ve been involved with Agewell CIC, a Community Interest Company based in Sandwell, which provides invaluable services and support for older people throughout the borough. As a voluntary Independent Director on the Agewell Board, I’m very proud of the work they do and am hoping that my marathon challenge will raise some money for this excellent organisation. The marathon takes place on Saturday 29th October. It’s a 26.2 mile race around the Snowdon range of mountains and includes around three miles of mountain track. Just before Christmas 2015, and out of the blue, I was contacted by Jim, an old friend who I’d lost touch with for nearly 20 years. He sent me the message, ’30 years – are you up for it?’ with a web-link to the Snowdonia Marathon 2016. We entered this race together in 1986 as part of a group of four when we were in our 20s. I’m now in my 50s and haven’t run for nearly 18 years but I couldn’t resist the challenge. Agewell’s mission is to help older people to ‘age well’. By sponsoring me, you’ll be helping older people to stay happier, healthier and independent for longer
