We are fundraising for Oxfordshire Breastfeeding Support (OBS) in memory of our daughter Willow.
Willow was a bright, happy, strong and healthy baby. She died unexpectedly in her sleep after only four months of life. We love Willow with every atom of our beings, in every moment of time, then and now and forever.
We will never know why Willow died. In thinking about fundraising in her memory, we decided to focus on what made a difference to her quality of life instead of fighting the unknown cause of her death. During Willow's time here she enjoyed a happy life full of laughter and love. One of the things that contributed to her happiness was the support of OBS.
OBS provide local breastfeeding support to the Oxfordshire families through expert facilitators. Willow and Leila visited OBS four times together, where we received 1:1 help to improve feeding. This made a tangible difference to Willow's life. She was a big, happy and apparently thriving baby as a result. OBS facilitators came to Willow's funeral to show their support and continue to be a pillar of kindness.
In many cases OBS make an even bigger difference to families lives: referring on babies who are not thriving to the NHS, assisting with challenging social situations, giving confidence and power to parents. We have seen with our own eyes the difference OBS make to so many people's health and wellbeing. OBS provide a core health and social function in our community and in our view should be funded by the government. However, in these political times it isn't surprising that they lost all their funding when Oxford's Children's Centres were shut in 2016 and currently run on donations alone.
OBS gave Willow their care and support and even continue to do so in her death. Now we'd like to return something to them.
We needed time after Willow's funeral to think about a worthwhile cause for offers of donations. This is it. Please help us honour Willow's memory.
Oli and Leila
