Wokingham Walk

We are excited to be taking part in this fantastic, community event to raise Home-Start's profile in the Wokingham Borough and to raise vital funds to enable Home-Start to continue supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable families.  

Home-Start is a small, local charity providing compassionate, emotional and practical support to parents with young children who are struggling to cope.  The parents we help are often single mums on low incomes, with mental health issues, disabilities, illness and/or isolation and who have little, if any, other support. Home-Start relies on a wonderful team of trained volunteers who go out into the community, visiting families in their homes each week and giving them the emotional and practical support they need to get them through a  particularly tough time.  With regular help, isolated families are able to face their own particular challenges including:

• their own mental health issues such as anxiety and post-natal depression;
• parenting toddlers with learning difficulties like autism/ADHD; and 
• the practical difficulties of looking after multiple young children including twins and triplets.

 Home-Start aims to help parents grow in confidence and give their children a better start in life. A weekly visit from one our volunteers, who provides a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, parenting tips and reassurance, makes a real difference to the lives of the families they support. Home-Start relies on support from local organisations,and individuals continue their vital work - for which, sadly, there is an ever increasing demand.
