Baby Basics provide Moses baskets of essential items for new mums who find themselves struggling financially at this critical time of life. The service was set up in 2013 by 4 mums who, with the support of their local church and community, volunteered their time to provide this valuable service predominantly to health care professionals. In nearly 13 years we have helped over 3,300 families have a better start with their baby.
Why the community needs us
The mums we support are often on the fringes of society who have grown up in care, have substance misuse issues linked to domestic abuse or historic sexual abuse, have found themselves in trouble with the law, are very young or are single parents which all lead to economic hardship, isolation and low self esteem.
Our impact on the community
“You can almost hear the weight lifting off their shoulders and some of that worry fade away. Their faces light up and they are better able to enjoy the rest of their pregnancy journey because of this. They are able to spend more time bonding with baby because their mind is not full of as much worry as it was previously as well as some of the guilt they may feel. It helps them to become excited and prepared.” - Family Action Supportive Steps
