The Fourth Reserve was established in 2017 to safeguard the natural heritage of South East London's New Cross to Forest Hill cutting. We manage a beautiful nature reserve in an urban area and are connected with local wildlife rescuers through providing a release site for rehabilitated birds. We welcome several schools to Buckthorne so children can connect with nature and learn about wildlife on site. Our goal is to safeguard the corridor's natural heritage and create opportunities for the community to enjoy the corridor and surrounding area through connecting with nature and with the area's wonderful history
Why the community needs usWe provide the community with inclusive projects enabling them to enjoy nature and improve their well-being. The community can volunteer, enjoy the benefits of woodland walks and help protect wildlife. We particularly support groups such as school and youth groups who have limited opportunities to access nature.
Our impact on the communityWe help a broad range of people in our local area through different activities all of which help elevate the importance of our green spaces. This work facilitates a connection between the past and the present, the city and the natural environment and safeguards our community heritage.
