Projects empower local people and target those facing personal and social barriers with a range of complexities. An exciting activity-based fun filled approach to music and learning aims to maximize potential for new learning opportunities and important relationships to occur to tackle issues that come with social isolation, exclusion, discrimination, low skill levels and low self esteem through a programme of youth work, mentoring, skills development, career support, networking, research, volunteering. Projects combine digital media (video/photography) and IT capital training (computers) with music activities: singing/songwriting; piano/keyboard; music technology/production; DJ; percussion; guitar. Helping members develop an attitude to become innovative, confident, independent, resourceful plays an integral part in all Performing Room projects. At its' heart is a sense of the role each play in life as a family member, friend, neighbour, employee/employer and member of the community.

Why the community needs us

A former 10 year group-led building project successfully converted a derelict community center located in the heart of Northampton's famous Boot & Shoe Quarter into a thriving modern day music and arts community creative hub for thousands of local people across 50 local services to regularly meet, make friends, build upon shared interests, develop music and key transferable skills, forge important links and pathways and receive critical support on health, education, employment, benefits, housing

Our impact on the community

The primary aim is to promote the physical, mental, psychological and social health and well-being of community members using music. They will report feeling happier, more productive members as a direct result of their involvement and play more of an active role contributing to the building of a safe and healthy community. Members will report feeling increasingly positive about their futures and more confident their increased skills will help them progress into education, training or employment.
