Cletwr is a community owned and run siop, cafe and hub in Tre'r ddol, Ceredigion.
Cletwr's primary role is preserving vital community services and providing resources which can be difficult to access in our rural location. As a hub and focal point for the community one of our primary aims is to help combat rural isolation and loneliness. We do that by bringing people together, either at events or workshops we have organised, as volunteers within the organisation or simply as customers, who call in for a smile and a chat or to meet their friends for a coffee.
Why the community needs usWhen our village shop closed we lost a valuable resource, not just for convenience but a place to meet people, chat to your neighbours and a focal point for the community. Volunteers came together and Cletwr was reopened, firstly as a shop and cafe serving homemade food and coffees, and over time we've grown and developed. We organise regular community events, walks, talks, Welsh learners mornings, films and a lot more.
Our impact on the communityWe are owned and run by the community we serve. We are in continual development and try to respond to what the community needs from us. We now employ 6 part time members of staff and have approximately 50 volunteers who all fill incredibly varied roles - barista, gardener, stock management, jambuster, welsh cake maker, director, poster putter upper, library organiser as well as working on the till.
Volunteers are central to us here at Cletwr. Whether you have 4 hours a week or 4 hours a month to spare we have a volunteer role thta will suit you!
