A secret and magical place - saved from neglect & being brought back to life by local volunteers
Penllergare Valley Woods are run and maintained by Penllergare Trust, a small, local charity set-up specifically for this purpose. All the income from our coffee shop and car park goes back into the Trust to help us to maintain and further improve the woods. We also rely on donations, grants and our team of volunteers to continue our work. It costs us over £100,000 a year to care for the woods, £25,000 of which is rent for the lease of the land! Please help us by giving whatever you can.
Why the community needs usPenllergare Valley Woods provides an essential 'green corridor' for wildlife to follow the river along its length. It is the only place they can cross under the M4 motorway. The woods also provide a scenic and peaceful place for locals and tourists to walk and exercise, improving the health and wellbeing of the community. The Trust offers volunteering opportunities for local people and groups, allowing them to socialise, learn new skills, and feel a valued part of the community.
Our impact on the communityWe have successfully completed 'Phase One' of our restoration of the woods and Upper Lake, and are now moving into Phase Two - the restoration of the Walled Gardens and Vinery. We have over 100 volunteers working to help us care for the woods and gardens, and working in our community coffee shop. We have prevented housing developments from encroaching into the valley and preserved the woods and historic sites at Penllergare. We need your help in raising the funds to allow us to continue this.
