About the appeal

Here we go again - again - yet another Winter with struggles ahead for us all. This year Helping Hooves is facing different challenges yet again - not only is funding still not covering demand, the cost of living 'crisis' is hitting us hard, not just in overheads like electricity bills, but our horse feeds and hay costs have increased substantially too.
Again, we're wanting to generate an income that ensures our lovely older therapy horses and ponies get all the feed and nutrients they need to keep well through the winter months - plus we've additional overheads trying to keep up with the demand on our therapy services for people and families who need our support.
This December and January, February and March 2023 are going to be just as tough as the last two winters.

So again. maybe you'd be kind enough to send us a donation here on our Local Giving page? £6 buys a bale of hay, £14 buys a sack of feed packed with essential nutrients, protein and fibre needed in an older horses diet.
Our horses are here for anyone who needs them and continue to do the most amazing job helping people affected by Covid-19 and other illnesses to feel happy, relaxed and safe. We hope you can help us give them some much needed tlc in return.

Hi Everyone :) We're doing good so far, still a fair bit to find though. After the icey cold weather we're now facing very wet paddocks where the grass is simply turning to mud so there's nothing really on the ground for the horses and ponies to forage, meaning they are now totally dependant on the hay and hard feed we provide for them. Horses naturally graze for around 16 hours per day, and prolonged periods of not eating can lead to a number of serious gastric issues from developing ulcers to colic. This is particularly the case for older horses such as ours. So, the more we can feed them in frequent intervals, the better :) Of course, besides the provision of the hay and feed, there are a number of really hard working volunteers involved in actually feeding, and they too are getting very wet and cold! It's a massive team effort and one I am eternally grateful for everyone's support with - from donating funds to doing the 'food shop' to making up the feeds to filling the hay nets - to wading through the mud and rain to serve up to the hungry 'hippos' - and finally not forgetting the picking up of the poop afterwards! All this couldn't happen without the funds in the first place, so again, thank you and wishing you all a Happy New Year with a focus on Spring bringing us all brighter days and the horses some lovely fresh grass :) xxx
