Back on Track is a Manchester charity that enables disadvantaged adults to make lasting, positive changes in their lives. We work with adults who are going through a process of recovery or rehabilitation, having been through problems with alcohol or drugs, offending, homelessness and mental health. Our work includes training, work experience, volunteering, wellbeing and enterprise - and it enables people to build the skills they need to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives.
Why the community needs usThere are all kinds of social problems in Manchester - poverty, homelessness, crime and substance abuse. We help people put their pasts behind them, build new lives and move towards a positive future. This helps everyone - the individual, their families, and the local community.
Our impact on the communityWe support around 1000 people every year, helping them become more skilled, more qualified and more confident. 18 months ago we opened a social enterprise cafe in our centre, designed to equip disadvantaged people with the skills and experience they need for work. Since then 75% of our cafe volutneers have moved into further work or training, including more than a third into paid work. This is a remarkable achievement for people who had been living on the streets, using drugs or even in prison.
