Vistry Partnerships Virtual Run - 5 - 10K - 21K Winter Series and Help Us to Defeat Holiday Hunger!

We provide free and subsidised sport and recreational activities and healthy meals

Our mission is To provide children and youngsters with a unique opportunity to develop leadership, organisational and physical management skills in a fun and safe supportive learning environment in which participants can build a sense of community.

"School holidays can be stressful periods for children from low-income families. Poor provision of appropriate childcare, limited access to enrichment activities, and food insecurity mean that children's health and well-being can suffer, and their learning stagnates or declines". Burgess Sports has been delivering multi-sports holiday and after-school programmes since 2013. In 2016 Burgess Sports introduced healthy food and cooking workshops within its holiday and after-school clubs since then we have offered over 14000 meals and healthy snacks to our participants.

Our work provides hundreds of children a chance to be active and enjoy the outdoors. It builds confidence and self-esteem and provides opportunities for young people to develop leadership skills to take responsibility. Our popular Ambassador programmes have given important life and employability skills to over 50 young people.

Because of COVID, the needs of low-income neighbourhoods have changed during the pandemic and therefore the role and function of Burgess Sports has changed too. In many instances, Burgess Sports has expanded from supporting young people to supporting entire families to respond to their needs.

We made a good partnership with local charities and have a strong logistical set up for the delivery of food to vulnerable families For 18 weeks we delivered freshly cooked healthy meals.

The food not only proved to feed people’s bodies but also made them feel cared for. We strongly believe it helped to relieve everyday stress.

As the uncertainty of COVID persists we are again delivering a food programme, In partnership with Creation Trust and our fantastic Chef Franco we are distributing ingredients and inviting families to sign up and cook with their children. "Kids in the kitchen" is giving the families all the necessary ingredients to cook a meal for up to 7 people, alongside with the recipe, families can watch Franco video to follow, teach and cook with their children. Enjoy a lovely meal and teach the children how to cook on a budget a simple, healthy and fun meal.

We have over 500 unique participants every year, over 6000 attendances in our programmes.
In the survey, 90% of parents strongly agree they would recommend Burgess Sports sports clubs and Holiday programmes to my friends and neighbours and 10% agree with this statement.
In the survey, 93% of the children strongly agree they would like to come to another programme
