Sherborne Air Cadets is a youth organisation providing young boys and girls with adventure training.
Sherborne Air Cadets or Air Training Corps is a youth organisation providing young boys and girls with adventure training in Dorset. We have young people of both sexes between the ages of 13 and 20 and aim to provide them with a range of activities and experiences including flying (powered and gliders) and adventurous activities such as hill walking and kayaking. Cadets also participate in organised sports and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Why the community needs usWe ensure that our young people become good citizens and encourage them to act as team members. Camps and physical challenges significantly increase their degree of personal responsibility, comradeship, mutual support and physical health. All of this contributes to their well-rounded personalities and gives them a good start in their future personal relationships and careers. We encourage them to take an active role in shaping their own futures.
Our impact on the communityThe cadets are very visible in the community in their smart uniforms, especially at the St Georges Day and Armistice Day parades which conclude at Sherborne Abbey. We feel that their participation contributes significantly to the local character, engenders pride, and strengthens a positive self-image in our community.
Are you willing to assist with running Air Cadet activities on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and occasional weekends? Would you like to join the civilian management committee? If so, please contact anharding@btinternet.com
