As some of you may know, I got a new job doing fundraising and communications for a school in Hemel Hempstead. The Collett School is an all-through education school, teaching children with learning difficulties from age 4 to 17. We are oversubscribed and have pupils from all over Hertfordshire and the neighbouring counties. It makes it all the more remarkable, therefore, to learn that we are one of the lowest funded special schools in the county. 93% of our funds go directly to our highly-qualified staff, leaving 7% for all the essentials: books, pencils, chairs, tables, maintenance, repairs – everything. To maintain the minimum expectations, as well as continuing to go above and beyond for our pupils, is hard. Despite this, we are a flagship SEN school – a fact we are proud of. Raising funds and voluntary work are the only ways to uphold our high standards, and it is for this reason that I am firewalking! Whilst I am one of the newer members of the Collett team, I am no less in awe of the school than my long-serving colleagues. Within half a year I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly - but there’s a unique charm here that I have never come across before, and I doubt I never will again. The kids and staff are incredible, and I am so glad that I have been given the opportunity to work here, so I have decided to pay back and go the extra mile and join dozens of others on 16th March to raise funds for the school. Please donate! You’ll be supporting a fantastic school and contributing to the potential destruction of my feet!
Good luck Harry. Its better than walking on Guilded Splinters!

I know it’s a worthwhile cause but please be careful. I am not sure if you are very brave or totally nuts!!
