So I have signed up to do my first (of hopefully many) triathlons! This sprint distance triathlon in the new forest at the end of August is made up of a 400m open water swim, a 33km cycle, and finally a 5k run. I have started training and have 12 weeks to get prepared!
When doing these types of events in the past, I have always tried to raise some money for good causes but have often gone straight to the big charities. This time, a work colleague suggested I look at local charities and in particular those linked to Portsmouth's QA Hospital (who we work with) and I came across George's Rockstars, a local charity set up by the parents of George who they very sadly lost aged six following a long battle with Leukaemia. I have a six year old son of my own and so this really resonated with me. I cannot claim to be musically gifted in any way, shape, or form, but I love music and know how much it means to children. I think its a really amazing cause and something that can benefit hugely from people getting behind it :-)
Update 7th July - George's Rockstars have very kindly offered me a spare place in a sky dive event they are doing to raise money for their charity. This will take place the weekend prior to my triathlon (fingers crossed I don't break my ankle) and will be my first time jumping out of plane :-)
