Walk and Talk Walking groups have been shown to help people with their health and wellbeing. Sadly people who are homeless, vulnerably housed, facing difficulties and hardships commonly have poor health as well as difficulties accessing health services and wellbeing initiatives. Last year Dr Rebecca Hemming from Cardiff uni (http://www.csp.org.uk/frontline/article/3-minutes-rebecca-hemming) led a project that started walking groups for people experiencing hardship from the TAVs centre in Cardiff (https://www.tavscardiff.org). The research demonstrated real benefits for the people taking part but now it needs funds to continue. In partnership with TAVs and Cardiff University Undergraduate Physiotherapy Students, who will lead the walks, it needs funds to afford travel away from the city and be able to offer food and drinks. Who we are... Four middle-aged folk run the Bonn marathon because we should know better at our age! We are part of a cross-channel Anglo-German team (Frank, Birgit, Lotte, Ross and Graeme) who will be running the Bonn marathon in Germany in April 2018. The idea started as a mid-life crisis, and as we train it is proving to be! As we are running the distance we felt we should raise money for a worthwhile cause and as Graeme was fortunate enough to be part of the project in 2017 he convinced the rest of us about supporting the centre and students to have the funds to relaunch the walking groups and help people in Cardiff again. It is for a good cause we are keen to support and we hope you will too.
