Milton Keynes | Community Support & Development
At a vital time in a girl's personal and social development, Guiding provides a unique girl-only space and a modern and relevant programme which helps girls and young women develop emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually so that they can make a positive contribution to society. At Emerson and Furzton Guides we do this by encouraging all members to plan and participate in a varied programme which includes lots of fun activities such as crafts, challenges, and adventurous activities.
Why the community needs us
The skills that Guides, Young Leaders, and adult volunteers develop by attending Emerson and Furzton Guides contributes positively to the local community. Not only does the individual gain valuable interpersonal and life skills such as leadership, caring for others and self-determination but the wider community benefits from promoting responsible citizens of the future. Guides get involved in a number of worthwhile charitable events to support other organisations.
Our impact on the community
The unit is self-financing and is run by a dedicated leadership team of volunteers. The Guides and Young Leaders get fully involved in deciding the programme of activities each term. Archery, climbing, zorbing, outdoor cooking, making crafts as well as team building games are just a few of the fun activities Guides get up to. Additional funding enables us to subsidise visits to make them accessible to all within the unit. We enjoyed a recent visit to Cadbury World and attended the MK pantomime.
