Cambridge SCA exists to encourage the involvement of students in voluntary community work, providing services to disadvantaged groups within the community and giving students a valuable learning experience. We actively recruit students from both the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University. As well as supporting local people and organisations, Student Community Action aims to raise the aspirations of young people to stay in education.
Why the community needs usCambridge SCA recruits between 100- 300 student volunteers per year for ten internal projects that provide educational, social and sports and welfare support to disadvantaged children and the elderly. We also recruit students to volunteer in the community with other voluntary organisations supporting a huge sections of the community.
Our impact on the communityWe currently have over 300 clients who benefit from one of our many services. This includes over 60 vulnerable children who are matched with a volunteer who visits them on a weekly basis; 25 elderly people who receive a weekly social visit and over 80 children who get extra support from our volunteers in or after school to supplement their education.
