Victoria Centre, a multi-cultural community centre, was founded in 1979 by the Wellingborough United Reformed Church and the Community Relations Council (now Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council) to provide a meeting place for the multi-cultural and multi-faith community of Wellingborough. For 31 years the aim of Victoria Centre has been to bring together people of all ages and cultures, adding to the rich multicultural diversity of the centre and the wider community.

Why the community needs us

Wellingborough is one of the most culturally diverse towns in the county which makes working towards community cohesion a top priority. No other organisations in the locality offer a holistic approach like VC with its variety of activities. With public funding cuts the centre is needed more than ever to bridge the gaps in provision e.g. for people with learning disabilities and older people.

Our impact on the community

Victoria Centre was founded 31 years ago as a meeting place for new arrivals and has been the incubator for several BME community centres; e.g. Wellingborough African- Caribbean Association, Hindu Centre, and Pravasi Mandal for Asian Elders. We continue this developmental work with Muslim women and Eastern European migrants in particular.
