The purpose of ABC is to provide a sign up session for pregnant women and mothers who are breastfeeding or providing their own milk for their baby, or who wish to do so; and their children, their partners and other family supporters. Our trained facillitators aim to provide evidence based information on, and skilled support for, breastfeeding at every stage through to the end. We will do this in a breastfeeding friendly environment where families can meet and support each other.

Why the community needs us
Many breastfeeding issues can be resolved in the community with skilled and timely intervention. Access to community breastfeeding support has been greatly reduced in recent years. The NHS and public health breastfeeding support services are already overstretched. ABC can provide excellence of care and on going support in the families' location. We also have scales and hire breast pumps.

Our impact on the community
In 2023 516  families visited a total of 823 times. Many continue to exclusively breastfeed for 6 months or longer. Most weeks we have 15-22 families attending. 10-15 will require 1-1 extensive care and support whilst others continue to support each other over refreshments and cake. We also have trained 'Association of Breastfeeding Mother' Supporters, offering advice.
