Since its incorporation in 2006 ACT Training Services has been engaged in the education of vulnerable people, empowering them to enhance their personal and professional growth. Our mission is: "to inspire achievement of people through the provision of quality training, enabling them to develop skills of value".

In the year 2014 we developed the Pocket Learner Educational system which has become our flagship programme.  Since then we have focused on producing and distributing these innovative educational resources which have won multiple awards and impacted the lives of several families caring for disabled children in the UK and other countries.  The system consists of a range of workbooks, cards and other materials geared at building vocabulary as well as promoting reading and numeracy skills.  These unique materials are able to be tailored, based on the learning needs of the child or young adult; they can be used independently or with the parent/carer.

Why the community needs us
Over the years we have worked with the local community to enable them to aim higher and take steps to broaden their personal and professional repertoire. We helped over 6,000 people gain qualifications and develop relevant skills and competencies in order to boost their marketability and secure employment.

We were successful in the foregoing endeavour and now we have turned our focus to parents and professionals engaged in the care and education of children with cognitive disabilities. This community is often left behind and face exclusion and parents are often left frustrated and exhausted.  Our resources aim to alleviate the associated stress on these families, as the materials promote achievement and raise aspirations. As a training organisation we are able to conduct training programmes for the targeted families and professionals in order to share information in how to maximise the benefits from using the materials.  We are also able to tap into the experiences and knowledge of the different groups in order to enrich the programmes and develop further resources to support our children with special educational needs and disabilities.

Our impact on the community
In the first 12 years of operation we trained people for the purposes of employment and in order for them to access further training or work experience.  We helped our clients develop vocational as well as interpersonal skills that enabled them to survive and thrive in the contemporary business workplace.

In recent years we have consistently accessed funding in order to offer the Pocket Learner to hundreds of families in six London Boroughs. We have supported families on and offline so that they can successfully utilise the materials. Our parents workshops have been particularly successful, serving as forums for dissemination of information and guidance regarding the use of the resources and also as a safe space where parents are able to explore their creativity, share issues and access peer support.
