Milton Keynes | Social Welfare
Akota means unity and our main aim is to hold social, recreational and cultural events for the Bengali families living around central Milton Keynes. By organising these events we promote unity and prosperity in our community. These events are also open to everyone who is interested without any prejudice what so ever to racial background religion or sexual orientation.
Why the community needs usAkota strongly believes in education and by providing social and cultural events we educate everyone on Bengali culture and heritage. We also have a small school which teaches children Bengali and Arabic. We also encourage volunteers from all background to get invoved and by helping us organise big events. In return we provide them with organising, planning, budgeting, communication and other core skills which they can use in their individual and working life.
Our impact on the communityThanks to the support of the Milton Keynes community foundation, we have held successful events where we had well over 250 participants including the Mayor, Milton Keynes councillors and the ex Bangladeshi high commissioner. The last event we held was so high profile we managed to entertain the local community in Bletchley and the event was televised on ChanelI which is a well known Bangladeshi TV chanel and the event also featured on so well established Bangladeshi newspapers.
