Run completely by volunteers, All Stars Theatre Group members are all adults with learning disabilities. We engage them in activities and experiences that they would not normally, by virtue of their situation have access to. We provide workshops and performance based activities. We do not charge members in any way because if we did many could not afford to come.
Why the community needs usHelping to integrate them in the community. Originally started as a one off confidence building exercise we have proved to be so popular that we have been performing a minimum of two shows a year to the general public. We provide workshops so members can act out everyday situations. We also take a very active part in local events such as fetes, Lord Mayors Day, Respect Festival. The aim of our group is to help our members to see and been seen as valued members of their local community.
Our impact on the communityMany members who felt isolated are now mixing with people in their areas.Given the lack of resources within social services many of our group members say that this group has been the only thing in their lives that has been consistent. We believe in learning through fun and friendship. Developing quite a fan base. Many audience members have said that they are amazed at what our members are capable of. This is something they do by choice. We have proved so popular we have a very long waiting list.
