About the appeal

The new DCHS Discretionary Hardship Fund will support individual students to take part in off site activities and trips that they would otherwise be unable to attend. This will provide inclusive opportunities for young people.

Our recent Cost of Living survey highlighted that many families have concerns about the cost of trips, particularly as transport costs continue to rise. Working closely with school, the Duchess's High School Trust Discretionary Hardship Fund will support individuals to take part in trips and activities, giving more young people access to additional experiences that will have a positive impact on their learning and personal development.

Since launching in January 2023, we have supported 29 students to access experiences that otherwise would not have been possible. Please dig deep and help us to continue this support into 2024.

Please note - the costs we have provided are for guidance only. These are some of the trips we have recently supported. Cost of trips changes frequently depending on fuel costs and activity costs. Any amount you can donate will make a difference.

December 2022 - huge thanks to The Ship Inn, Low Newton who kicked off our appeal with £355 raised at their Christmas Fair and to DCHS Hairdressing who have raised £138 in the salon during December towards this appeal. January 2023 - we have received a huge boost to this appeal thanks to two generous donations totalling £3500 from local charitable trusts. July 2023 - we are delighted to have been able to support 10 families through the Discretionary Hardship Fund - providing full or part payment towards trips that they otherwise would not have been able to afford. We know that this has made a huge difference - not only opening up new opportunities but benefiting families' mental wellbeing by removing a source of financial stress.
