In Spring 2021, as England began to climb out of the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, children from Year 6 at St John's C of E Primary School in Dorking, Surrey began to explore and reflect on the impact that the Pandemic has had on their mental health and wellbeing. Working with a song-writing and production team, the children created lyrics and melodies which expressed their own emotions, voices and hopes for the future. The result is this inspirational song 'Let My Colours Shine'.

With the aspiration of sharing this song to give encouragement and hope to others, the children and team have launched this  'Let My Colours Shine Appeal'. All funds raised will be distributed to charities, organisations and projects which provide vital help and support to children in England who are struggling with their own mental health and wellbeing.

A 'Project Board' has been established with representatives from the health, education, voluntary, community and faith sectors. At the heart of this Project Board will be two child representatives. The Project Board will ensure that all monies are distributed to improve the mental health and life chances of children in England following the devastating impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
