We provide over 1500 sessions of therapeutic riding a year in groups of 3 to 6 riders per class. Our riders are all ages and have a mixture of physical, learning and mental health difficulties. Each lesson is tailored to the riders' specific needs, whether a social hack for adults with learning disabilities or a showjumping class for teens.
Why the community needs usOur sessions bring benefit in so many ways: physically, the warmth and movement of the horse offer sensory stimulation, strengthen core muscles and increase balance; mentally, they are proven to improve communication skills and confidence levels. What's more the Avon Riding Centre is a place where riders and their families feel accepted and safe, even while they are learning to take risks while riding.
Our impact on the communityWe help around 300 people a year to enjoy riding lessons and the chance to spend time with horses. A teacher from one of our sessions for special schools said, "All of the students' listening skills and ability to follow instructions are positively influenced by learning new and different skills at horse-riding." One of our parents said "When you have a child with additional needs, you see a lot of doors closing. With Avon Riding Centre, all these pathways open up!"
