St Ives | Education & Training
The aim of the Trust is to improve the self-confidence and self-esteem of socially and/or economically disadvantaged children of secondary school age through the activity of horse riding.
Why the community needs usThe experience of horse riding has transformed the lives of young people and their families. The improvement in self confidence and self esteem experienced enables young people to interact more successfully with peers and family members. The sense of achievement from learning to canter, or to jump, has enabled young people to help train others, and gain certificates in horse care. This has assisted their achievement at school and helped them return to a family setting successfully.
Our impact on the communityThe Trust provides over 140 horse riding lessons to more than 10 young people per year. Young people have shown improved confidence documented by the teachers and outreach workers. One young person has achieved a Level 1 Horse Owners certificate, and another a Pony Club Certificate for Stable Management. Family members have provided feedback on their improved behaviour and self discipline. One young person has subsequently worked at the stables, and with Riding for the Disabled Association
