We are involved in five main areas: * a Basics Bank supplying emergency food, bedding and homewares to people facing domestic crises * ministry to two dozen schools across the city, running lunch-time clubs and taking assemblies & RE lessons * supporting families on the Whitehawk Estate, where we also run a youth club and IT club * an outreach to the elderly in some twenty local Rest Homes * a media wing, producing CD's and DVD's, and reaching young people via web contact , text messaging etc.
Why the community needs usLet our beneficiaries speak for themselves: * "Thanks for helping my son who has an uphill struggle with mental health problems - he is now comfortable in his new place" * "I love this club, I'm never going to leave it" * "The residents really appreciate the services and wish you could come more often" * "Someone was saying nasty things about my mum. It made me angry and I wanted to hit them. Then I saw you and remembered everything I'd learned about Jesus. I decided to get up and walk away"
Our impact on the communityIn 2011 the Basics Bank received 1000 visits helping families in crisis, and distributed 200 Start Up Home packs. 'Kidz Count' has taken 5 assemblies to 24 local Primary Schools, run lunch-time clubs in 5 schools and taught a number of RE lessons. 'Treasured Moments' has conducted monthly services in 20 Rest Homes and run 2 Senior Alpha courses. The Big Breakthrough & IT Clubs have opened regularly during term time, and 'Lifestream' has organised 3 weekend retreats for vulnerable women/children.
