Diving Club - we are a registered British Sub Aqua Club branch offering scuba diving opportunities to members of the local community aged 12 and over. In addition to scuba training we encourage a range of practical skills such as boat handling and maintenance, navigation, first aid, instructor training and marine conservation. Our goal is to make diving an accessible and affordable activity for all by utilising qualified volunteer instructors within a safe club support system.
Why the community needs usBingham SAC offers an open membership with robust protection procedures for vulnerable members. A previous grant enabled us to purchase junior kit making this sport affordable for young people. Our members come from across South Notts and range from 12 to 74yrs. As well as the structured skills development listed above we also develop planning, social, team and risk management skills and build confidence in our members at all levels. Our system is to develop members to then support others.
Our impact on the communityWith our junior kit we have trained 17 young people in a range of diving-related skills over the last 2 years. The club now has 12 under 18s training with the club, 8 of which are fully qualified Ocean Divers and are progressing to higher diving qualifications. The purchase of a defribulator last year through fund raising allowed us to increase skills and safety offshore. We now have 5 defribulator instructurs and 22 people qualified to use it.
