
Bobath is a specialist treatment centre providing individually tailored clinical therapy for children from birth to 18 in Wales who have cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy can affect movement, sensation, perception, cognition, communication and eating and drinking. In some children, all these functions are affected. Our aim is to improve the quality of life and well-being for these children through the unique provision of specialist physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech & language therapy
Why the community needs usEvery 6 hours a child is born who will have cerebral palsy. The demand for our service is growing with nearly 400 children on our books. It is estimated that there are at least 1,800 children in Wales today who have cerebral palsy. The Bobath Centre is the only specialist treatment centre for cerebral palsy in Wales. Children from birth to 18 are referred for specialist Bobath therapy by their Consultant Paediatrician. Please help us with our mission to see every child in Wales who need us.
Our impact on the communityThrough Bobath therapy a child can learn how to move more functionally, become more coordinated and overcome postural problems. Therapy can help improve a child's mobility and reduce pain. It also helps improve a child's participation in daily activties. Our family support service is there for families who may have problems coming to terms with their child's disability, or who simply need advice or support. Clinical research undertaken at Bobath ensures highly effective therapy practice.
