To meet the needs of young people with Acquired Brain Injuries, and their families and carers, by the provision of care for their well-being, ongoing emotional and practical support, signposting and social interaction, so that their conditions of life may be improved. To provide a free, confidential Telephone Supportline for families, a dedicated Counselling Service and area-wide support groups. Raise awareness and understanding of issues related to 'the hidden disability'amongst the public.

Why the community needs us

Children experiencing Acquired Brain Injuries receive excellent care whilst in hospital in the North East. When they return home the daily challenges begin for the whole family, who often receive little or no support. Life is turned upside down and they can feel that they have nowhere to turn. BRAINBOX is a parent-led charity that provides a 'listening ear' on the telephone and practical, personal support within the community, bringing people together to benefit from their common experiences.

Our impact on the community

BRAINBOX has established the free and confidential Telephone Supportline staffed by volunteers 365 days a year. Families have been helped in college and school settings, with housing and employment enquiries and social support provision. BRAINBOX has supported families to have a voice with mediation and advocacy interventions. Families offload their fears, anxieties and frustrations through the Counselling and Listening Service and know that they can call BRAINBOX at any time.
