Over the last 27 years Butterwick Hospice Care has grown to become the main provider of hospice care for both adults and children residing in Teesside, County Durham, Durham Dales North Yorkshire and Wearside areas. We provide a wide variety of services including in-patient accommodation, day hospice facilities, home care and a wide range of complementary therapies, bereavement support and counselling - all developed with the care and wellbeing of the patient and their families in mind.

All the Hospice services we offer are completely free of charge and are of the highest quality. Many are also delivered on a 24 hour basis and in an effort to make services as accessible as possible we now have three established Hospice sites. We also have specialist outreach services which operate from Sedgefield Community Hospital, Weardale Community Hospital in Stanhope and Richardson Hospital in Barnard Castle which serve the more rural areas and where patients may have limited mobility.

Through its various services the Hospice delivered care to 2,200 adult and child patients in 2010. There were 924 visits to the Hospice from people requesting bereavement counselling, 411 calls were received from family members, 2275 Family Support meetings took place, 1699 people attended Family Support Drop In sessions, 290 people attended Moving On Together sessions and 1130 one to one bereavement counselling sessions took place. However, demand for these services continues to increase daily.
