To bring men together to work and socialise. Our workspace is well-equipped for various woodworking activities but could expand into other hobbies. It attracts mainly guys who come to make and mend whatever they choose, whenever they like, working either individually or in a small group, doing things for themselves or projects for the commnunity and always at their own pace. Its free to attend.
Why the community needs usOur Shed keeps older men more active, more connected, learning, and contributing to society through making products or undertaking community projects such as making a castle as an archery target for disabled children, a gate for the Calthorpe Community Gardens, kindergarden furniture, and toys for autistic children. We reuse discarded timber.
Our impact on the communityOlder men's health is maintained and improved; they get to use a workshop; they access tools and resources not otherwise availabale to them; older people retain their skills through practice or develop their skills by learning from each other; community projects get something they couldn't afford; new products are made from discarded materials. About 25 people a year attend.
