..to run weekly classes in East Sussex where children keep fit, make friends, have fun and build confidence. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art form that fuses martial-art, acrobatic moves, dance, music and singing. We train all these elements and practice them together in the rich performance ritual that is Capoeira, together as well as in the community. And we play lots of movement games. We provide stimulating out of school activity which develops multi-skills.
Why the community needs usFostering happy, fit, confident kids in the Brighton and Hove and Lewes area. We make connections across the wider community by bringing together home educated and children from different schools in sessions, and by performing at local events in the wider community i.e. Patch Fest, Black History Week, Streets of Brighton and Dance for Life events. Kids learn about slavery as capoeira's roots are in the culture of African slaves taken to Brazil. Respect for different cultures is nurtured
Our impact on the communityOur group members and young people make friends, develop physical co-ordination, project their voice in song, tune into rhythms, become comfortable with performing. Thus group members build their confidence and develop good life skills. As a practice it integrates boys and girls, old and young, children with different abillities/interests/languages/heritage in one club. Children develop awareness and respect for different cultures first hand, meeting capoeira practitioners from overseas
