ABCAB provides a comprehensive information and advice service to citizens throughout Argyll & Bute from its office base in Lochgilphead. With trained volunteer advisers we offer a holistic approach to a wide range of client issues, including welfare benefits, debt, housing, employment and consumer issues. We exercise a responsible influence on the development of social policies and services, both locally and nationally to the benefit of our community.
Why the community needs usArgyll & Bute is a remote rural community of over 90,000 citizens living on the mainland and 25 inhabited islands. We aim to reach all citizens, particularly the disadvantaged and socially excluded. Unemployment, redundancy & debt can have a detrimental effect on a client and their family's health. By providing clients with advice and information they will be empowered to manage their affairs effectively
Our impact on the communityWe represent clients in an impartial and dignified way that leads to successful outcomes for them and last year we dealt with one new issue for every 25 households in the area. Since April 2010 we have dealt with 1587 enquiries including 599 debt related issues. We have delivered outreach services in Campbeltown, Dunoon and Oban and secured client financial gain of over £193,000. We have trained and supported 9 new volunteers who are now skilled to assist clients.
