To provide opportunities for the over 55s, lonely and disabled people in our semi-rural community of Handcross and the surrounding villages to get together socially each month; to promote well-being by way of entertainment and the opportunity to share tea with others (many of our members eat alone much of the time) and awareness of current issues which may affect them.
Why the community needs usMeetings incldue a speaker, entertainer or games, followed by a good home-made tea . We have occasional coffee mornings and take members on two outings a year to places which they would be unable to access otherwise. We own two wheelchairs which are available for hire in the community. By providing interesting meetings we encourage friendship and the opportunity to go out to meet and share tea, giving them an afternoon to look forward to each month and we promote independent living.
Our impact on the communityA recent questionnaire showed us members particularly enjoy the outings in May and November, musical entertainers and the Christmas Party. We receive many telephone messages of appreciation and at meetings members are very enthusiastic about the club.We put a short article in the local parish magazine periodically to encourage new members. Vistors (MSDC, speakers etc) always comment on the positive and friendly atmosphere of the club.Former members who have moved away like to visit us.
