Human Roots is charity creating real positive impact, improving health and wellbeing through community gardening. ‘Little Roots’ mobilises ‘mini-allotments’ into schools to help children learn about growing food and cooking home grown produce with a hands on approach, which encourages children to connect both with one another and nature.
· HRCG brings together the local community to improve health and wellbeing through allotment gardening. · HRCG allotment facilities welcome groups from all walks of life to participate and learn about gardening and growing healthy food products.· ‘Little Roots’ was launched in response to the COVID-19 crisis, HRCG is raising money to buy equipment to put gardens into schools to continue with the central missions above and promote healthy eating from an early age.· Little Roots Project will benefit young people from local communities through: understanding how to grow their own food, how to cook and prepare home grown produce and improve their mental and physical wellbeing by being outdoors and participating collectively.· Disadvantaged individuals/families will get access to healthy food through partnerships with local foodbanks.
From the produce grown at the community allotment over the growing season 2020, founding member Keiran Olivier and her team of volunteers have been delivering organic, pesticide free, fresh fruit and vegetables to over 13 Families. That has meant supporting over 56 people in families by giving out fresh produce each week. Each family receives an average of 2.5kg/5kg of produce to meet individual needs.
