Why they need our service There is a shortage of opportunities for disadvantaged people in the area to learn DIY/construction skills in a relatively flexible environment, yet with a skills crisis in the industry, there is plenty of work available for those with the skills. Many of Phases' trainees have experience of homelessness, long term unemployment or other challenging circumstances. Our project seeks to provide a bridge between informal learning and the more structured demands of Further Education and work.
Plan and expected results Our workshop can accommodate about 6 trainees at a time, giving us the opportunity to build strong personal relationships and provide tailored support to individuals. Trainees learn plastering, plaster boarding, tiling, carpentry, painting & decorating. Importantly, they also gain an understanding of the demands of work & practise valuable transferable skills, such as teamwork, timekeeping, conflict resolution and effective communication.
