Abandofbrothers exists to provide young men with the support they need to transition to an adulthood free of crime and full of purpose, meaning and connection. Many of the young men we work with have been - or are at risk of becoming - involved with the Criminal Justice System. We tackle male disaffection and catalyse transition into purposeful maturity. We achieve this by forging powerful bonds between younger and older men in our communities using 21st century rites of passage mentoring.
Why the community needs usOften the young men we work with come from very tough backgrounds - violence at home, no fathers - 25% of those in prison under 25 have been in the care system. Through their work with abandofbrothers, they become positive members of the community rather than victims and offenders. They get to express their hurt in an appropriate way and become valued, emotionally intelligent members of the community.
Our impact on the communityOur unique rites-of-passage mentoring programme enables young men to challenge the narrative of their lives and find new ways of being; developing means of peaceful conflict resolution and means of expressing anger in a safe, non-violent way. A regular gift can ensure we are able to support young men into the future. If you would like your regular gift to be allocated to a specific community, please let us know in the message you leave when you make your donation.
