The Abbey Community Association Ltd (ACAL) supports communities to improve their quality of life by promoting health, wellbeing & community cohesion. We have over 3000 members/service users reflecting the diverse ethnic & cultural backgrounds of people living in south Westminster. We deliver South Westminster Action Network, Resilient Families Partnership and Westminster Rough Sleeper Network to facilitate joint working, better communication and improved services to increase quality of life & health outcomes for local communities.
Why the community needs us
ACAL manages the Abbey Centre as the main community hub in south Westminster, offering a broad range of community services and activities for all ages and backgrounds. These include physical activity, health promotion, language classes, employment support, advice and information, homeless welfare services and a comprehensive volunteering programme. By facilitating the networks, we improve joint working, shared resources, awareness of access to local services, signposting and referrals.
Our impact on the community
We have a proven track record of delivering highly effective and much-needed services which achieve transformative positive change for the local community. In 2016, our services were subject to an independent Social Return On Investment review which found that for every £1 invested by funders, ACAL generated £9 of social return. Our activities & services proved improved confidence, skills, quality of life, health & wellbeing, community cohesion, and reduced social isolation for local residents.
