Please help record, rescue and save forgotten Welsh rural buildings before it's too late!
ABC's purpose is to record and save forgotten Welsh rural buildings such as cottages. These buildings were built for, and by, local people using local traditional building methods and locally sourced materials. We focus on buildings that are generally not listed, therefore have no statutory protection. ABC research in one area of the Brecon Beacons alone identified 281 sites of abandoned or derelict homesteads, 227 of these sites being previously unknown. Please help us to record and save more!
Why the community needs usABC's aim is to help the local community appreciate the contribution that rural buildings have made to their local area over time and how they encapsulate the skills and history of generations of hill farmers, how they lived their lives and created a community around themselves. ABC wants to do this through hosting volunteer building recording events and helping people better understand their own local historic buildings. Please donate, even if it's just a little, to help this happen!
Our impact on the communityABC's long-term goal is to obtain a building and restore it using traditional building methods and materials to provide a community use for local people. If successful, we would like to roll this out across several areas in Wales. We are always looking for potential buildings to acquire so if you know of a suitable derelict rural property (or may even have one on your land to donate?!) then please do get in touch. For more info see our project page above that is raising funds to buy a building!
