The purpose of ACE is to support disabled adults in Torbay by providing accessible, varied learning activites. Learning together develops new friendships and new interests that helps to build new skills, improve confidence, self esteem and combat loneliness. We believe that the pleasure of working together promotes good health and happiness. Members pay 60% of their learning fees and the charity pays 40%. It also provides a subsidised taxi service.

Why the community needs us

The ACE charity is based in Brixham and serves Torbay, which has a higher than average population of disabled people. ACE reaches out to them and their carers bringing a special meaning to their lives by replacing loneliness and boredom with friendship and learning. Learning together helps to build knowledge, social skills and confidence to face the challenges of life and improves education. The result is happiness, good health and better employment prospects.

Our impact on the community

ACE is a big part of our lives. It reaches all adults with a disability and volunteers, who benefit as well. It provides a regular pattern of activities, friendships and help if needed. The various activities provide both mental and physical stimulation that improves confidence, self esteem, happiness and good health. ACE provides a purpose in life. It breaks the cycle of loneliness and boredom with friendship and motivation. Some volunteers have found employment through ACE.
