Why the community needs usThe ACE charity is based in Brixham and serves Torbay, which has a higher than average population of disabled people. ACE reaches out to them and their carers bringing a special meaning to their lives by replacing loneliness and boredom with friendship and learning. Learning together helps to build knowledge, social skills and confidence to face the challenges of life and improves education. The result is happiness, good health and better employment prospects.
Our impact on the communityACE is a big part of our lives. It reaches all adults with a disability and volunteers, who benefit as well. It provides a regular pattern of activities, friendships and help if needed. The various activities provide both mental and physical stimulation that improves confidence, self esteem, happiness and good health. ACE provides a purpose in life. It breaks the cycle of loneliness and boredom with friendship and motivation. Some volunteers have found employment through ACE.
ACE volunteers are required to care, listen and assist disabled adults. You may be asked to make cups of tea and coffee, serve meals and join classes. In return for your support we can offer you a feeling of being valued, a chance to meet new people and gain new experiences. We can also help you move onto further education or employment through practical experience. Skills in social care are useful, but full training will be provided where necessary. No specific qualifications are required.
