
Age Concern Christchurch aims to make later life for those living in Christchurch a more fulfilling and enjoyable experience, particularly for those who are isolated and vulnerable.
Why the community needs usChristchurch has the largest percentage of older people in Europe. ACC spends every penny for the benefit of local people by providing: - Free information and advice at a central location - Befriending for those who live alone and feel isolated and vulnerable - Transport for shopping trips, outings and to Friendship Centres - 6 Friendship Centres offering a friendly and relaxed place to meet others for afternoon tea and activities - Opportunities and training for volunteers in the community
Our impact on the communityA central office for people to call into for information and advice. 2 sessions a week with the trained advice worker has provided £60K a year more benefits for older people. 120 older people in total attend Friendship Centres each week. Weekly shopping trips, monthly outings, Christmas parties, trips to pantomimes etc. Opportunities for 50 volunteers who currently work in the Friendship Centres, office, charity shop or act as Befrienders, drivers or trustees.
