Providing support and services to equip older people in Essex facing the challenges of later life
Age UK Essex is an independent registered charity which puts older people first so that no one has to face the challenges of later life alone.We aim to promote the wellbeing of all older people in Essex and be there to support people to live fulfilling and enjoyable lives so they can feel safe, remain independent and free from the debilitating effects of loneliness and social isolation.
Why the community needs usAge UK Essex believes that getting older should not be something to fear. Older generations are at the heart of our community and have a wealth of experience that can be shared and enjoyed. We believe in supporting our older residents today with advice and services and by raising much needed funds in Essex. By doing so, we build on our strong foundations with our partners to continue to support the growing number that will follow in years to come.
Our impact on the communityLast year we helped over 60,000 older people, from advice on how to choose the right supported accommodation, right through to providing travel insurance. We made a family re-connection for an elderly lady through our Digital befriending scheme in Thurrock. They had not spoken in years since her brother now lives on the other side of the world but now they are back in touch she feels less isolated and lonely. Our Information & Advice team secured £2.226m in benefits for older people in Essex.
Age UK Essex is always looking for volunteers, to either be an ambassador to promote the work of Age UK Essex, to help fundraise to support older people in their community, to become community befrienders or citizen advocates.
