Aldbourne | Community Support & Development
The Memorial Hall Charity was set up to provide a meeting place for all the people of Aldbourne. The land was given and the hall was built using public subscription to be a Memorial to those who died in the 1914 - 1918 War for use by the village as a meeting place in perpetuity. The Trustees work hard throughout the year to raise funds in order to maintain the building and help with the running costs and to keep the hiring charges as low as possible.
Why the community needs usAldbourne Memorial hall is the centre of village life. It is used by all age groups across the community. It is the home of The Aldbourne prize winning band, the W.I old and new hold their monthly meetings there. The Community Choir, Silver Threads and Luncheon club use it fortnightly & the local drama group, ballet, Zumba and yoga, weekly. People choose to hold their wedding celebrations there plus funeral teas and birthday parties of ages ranging from three to 100! A truly vibrant building!
Our impact on the communityThe building is 90 years old and there are always repairs and updates to attend to. The Management Committee work hard by fundraising to keep hiring costs down.
