We aim to increase well-being and resilience of children and families living with HIV, by providing consistent practical and relational support and activities. Families are matched with a volunteer who visits regularly to build a supportive relationship, facilitating activities for the children. Alternatively children may join our group outings or youth programme, with opportunity to make friends and expand horizons through visiting new places and participating in activities
Why the community needs us
Our services provide support to children and families who may find it hard to access other support services due to ill-health and the stigma that exists around HIV. Providing services through volunteers that start from the family home make support accessible and confidential, giving those who are isolated the opportunity to receive support and enabling children to get out to enjoy activities in the community.
Our impact on the community
We currently support 100 people; 66 children and 44 parents / carers. As a result of the activities and relational support volunteers provide, families report growing self-esteem and confidence, improved emotional well-being, increased resilience to cope with challenges arising, reduced social isolation, growing in trust in relationships, and the benefits children receive from opportunities that parents can't provide for their children due to health or financial limitations.
